The zee beckons.
There's a hole in the world like a great black pit
and the vermin of the world inhabit it
and its morals aren't worth what a pig can spit
and it goes by the name of London
In the glooming glow of lanterns, what horrors will reveal themselves by the running lights?
Come with me, And you'll be
In a world of pure imagination, Take a look
And you'll see, Into your imagination
Where all the rules have changed, do you dare to look?
At the top of the hole sit a privileged few
Making mock of the vermin in the lower zoo
turning beauty to filth and greed
And there's no place like London!
Leave the sun behind, and find new purpose.
Living there
You'll be free
If you truly wish to be

All hype aside, I'd like to run a humble introduction to the world created by Failbetter Games, which has spawned four iterations of the concept, including a version that is meant to be played with pen and paper. The heart remains the same: A place where natural law is usurped by the will and desire of a few inhabitants, and so the rules that we surface dwellers live by might no longer apply.
Gravity, color, sound, even life and death may have altered meanings. Madness is a constant pull. Hunger a companion that is never far. Wealth and fame are sisters of chance. Knowledge sears and is one of the most lucrative of commodities.
For the feel, think Ronald Dahl, Tim Burton, Victorian Penny Dreadfuls, and a hint of Lovecraftian themes.
You will have the option of a guide, whom I plan to write in the most godawful accent that I can come up with, so that the readers will have to stare for a good minute to figure out what she said. Unless I am swatted with a newspaper or spritzed with a spray bottle in discord to remind me to be nice.
I beg your indulgence. My mind is far from easy.
In these once familiar streets, I feel shadows, everywhere
