The staff here at Arkadia is proud to present you with the re-launch of our in-house persistent RP world where you can live, love, and die in a post-apocalyptic world with a touch of magic and a dash of the supernatural.
Why 2.0? Well, the first time around we had planned to leave a lot of the world building up to our members, but many had trouble entering a world so vague and open to change. So the staff here at Arkadia put our thinking caps on and added a foundation to this world so members have a solid base to start in this world.
But what exactly is Arkadia: Factions I hear you asking back there? Well let me tell ya.
Arkadia: Factions is a persistent RP world, meaning that your stories change and shape the world. The places you visit, the enemies you encounter, the stories you tell, make up the world of Arkadia. Staff along with participating members will run story events that will give rise to legends and myths, heroes and horrors that will leave their mark on the world. Of course, player run stories will also have the opportunity to create new locations, characters, weapons, and situations that will impact the world.
How do you get started? Settle down and I'll let you know.
Make a character, join a faction, and then hop right in. You start off working for one of the three main factions of Citadel City; The Carmesi Cartel, The Weeping Sisters, or The Academy. From there you can join up with others, fend for yourself, make your own crews to run guns, seek out ancient golden age tech, find sources of reality breaking warp power, explore the unknown, or fight other factions! That’s right, you can make your own factions and fight, and kill, others. We will of course indicate what story threads allow for player killing, so don’t worry, you don’t have to be on your guard all the time!
Now what are you waiting for, you kept pestering me with questions, go read the Beta guide to help you get started!
Open for all Arkadians to use, the Wanted Board functions as a streamlined tool to more easily browse actively recruiting threads and projects on site.
The Rules to use it are simple:
Posters are limited to one post per project.
Posters are free to post as many projects as they'd like.
When posting a wanted ad, the provided template should be filled to the best of one’s abilities.
If a reader is interested in joining someone's thread, they are to follow the GM's preference (as listed) to apply.
In addition, the WANTED BOARD channel on Discord functions in a much similar way! In order to have your advertisement featured in the Discord channel, please DM Sélène on site or over Discord (@ Crotchety Grandpa).
Feel free to dump any and all selfies in the selfie thread! Got a new look? We want to see it. Weird filter? Share it! So long as your pictures fall within Arkadia’s site-wide rules, we want to see your face.
In fact, the only thing we want to see more than your face, are your pets faces. And we know that you’ve got thousands of pictures stored on your phones of your furry/scaley/feathered babies, so hand em over!
The incredibly talented mage is Arkadia’s MOTM for August!
Mage is a familiar face across several projects on the site, as well as commonly found welcoming new folks to the forum. He also (extremely generously) took time out of his day to let me poke him for answers. Read on:
Q: What’s the meaning behind your username?
A: Mage Clawhammer was a character in a "book" I tried to write in elementary school. His concept stuck with me through highschool, and I continued making up adventures for him even though I wasn't writing them down. He was the first character that I brought into the forum scene in 2002, and I retired him as a character in 2005. He was a favorite, and continues to be a fond memory that I carry along with me as a username and online handle.
Q: How did you find Arkadia?
A: Endgame was working on a super secret project, and I'm an implacable annoyance when I want to know something. She eventually brought me and a couple of other very close friends in as beta testers. Said she meant to all along. I think she just wanted to shut me up.
Q: When did you start RPing? How’d you get into it?
A: I started in the yahoo chatrooms under the old Arts & Entertainment section, or Ayenee. We had dial up internet, and I spent so much time in chat that a lot of our extended family thought my parents had changed our home phone number because they could never get anything but a busy signal. One of my cousins first got me into the chat. I just loved that there were people online who were actively writing and contributing to a living breathing narrative. I've loved it ever since.
Q: Tell us about your writing process.
A: Dim lights, ambient music, no TV. A touch if sleep deprivation doesn't hurt. I usually write out a paragraph or two, and then read back over it. Write some more, then read back, so on and so forth. By the time I'm ready to post, I've probably read the whole thing at least three times. Reading out loud helps locate awkward prose and unnecessary word choices. It slows everything down, but I can't seem to help myself.
Q: Do you listen to anything while you write?
A: Pagan folk or dark ambient music usually
Q: Is there anything in particular that inspires you?
A: My peers in roleplay and amateur writing. I mean, yeah I get inspired by literature, art, and music, things like that. But nothing motivates me and gets me thinking like reading the work of another amateur writer. Nothing catches my attention like knowing someone has a project going. I'm a fanboy first and foremost, and there are members on this site whose work I will follow for as long as I can.
Q: Favourite book, movie, TV show, and song. Go!
A: I don't really have an answer for those things. Lol! My favorite video game is Bloodborne My favorite band right now is Wardruna My favorite youtuber is a tie between Daniel Greene and Brandon Tenold None of that is what you asked for, but it's something.
Q: Any tips for fellow writers?
A: Be honest with yourself, be proud of your strengths, and be humble in the face of constructive criticism. Rely on your community. There are countless other online chat mediums and forums, but we have come to Arkadia because of a shared passion for creativity. Build up those around you, and let them build you up in turn.
